Marianna Torgovnick is a Professor of English at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences, serving since 1987. Her research bridges English Literature, Film Studies, Postcolonialism, and Modernism, with a focus on interdisciplinary approaches influencing Art History, Anthropology, and Religion courses. She holds a Ph.D. from Columbia University (1975), alongside an M.A. (1971) and B.A. (1970) from Columbia and NYU, respectively.
Her work explores 20th-century and contemporary American culture, analyzing existential threats like nuclear apocalypse and climate change through literature. Notable publications include Bomb and Climate Change in Fact and Fiction (2022) and Me Thiele, You Tarzan (2024). Her writings have been featured in New American Studies Journal and D.H.
