Prof. Mariana Castillo Deball is a Professor of Sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts Muenster. Born in Mexico City (1975), she lives and works in Berlin. She holds a Master of Arts from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (1997) and completed postgraduate studies at the Jan Van Eyck Academy (Maastricht, 2003). Her practice combines art with research, focusing on archaeological finds and their cultural utilization through installations, sculptures, drawings, and performances.
Key exhibitions include solo shows at the New Museum (NY, 2019), Monash University Museum of Art (Melbourne, 2019), and group participations in documenta 13 (2013) and the Venice Biennale (2011). Her work explores material traces, historical narratives, and interdisciplinary connections between art and science.
Deball’s teaching emphasizes an interdisciplinary approach, integrating cultural, social, and linguistic phenomena into artistic practice. Her class at the Academy of Fine Arts fosters student engagement with diverse media and global perspectives, reflecting her belief in art’s symbiotic relationship with life’s broader contexts.
