Mariam Molokhia is a Professor of Primary Care & Clinical Epidemiology in the Department of Population Health Sciences. She coordinates the EUDRAGENE project, a European collaboration studying genetic susceptibility to adverse drug reactions. Her research focuses on pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, and electronic health record analysis.
Her work addresses drug safety, ethnic differences in disease risk, and methodological advancements in epidemiological studies. Key projects include EU-ADR, ARITMO, and collaborations with the CHARGE Consortium and SWEDEGENE. She leads NIHR-funded studies on diabetes management and kidney failure prediction in diverse populations.
Research outputs highlight contributions to understanding drug-induced liver injury, genetic predictors of adverse reactions, and global disease burden forecasts. Her work spans collaborations across Europe and the UK, with funding from EU FP7, Wellcome Trust, and NIHR. Teaching includes undergraduate/postgraduate medicine, epidemiology, and genetics, alongside roles as a GP appraiser and ILT-accredited educator.
Recent publications analyze acute/chronic care needs via the Global Burden of Disease Study and forecast health trends for 204 countries. Projects emphasize AI-driven screening for Alzheimer's, culturally tailored diabetes interventions, and using health data to reduce NHS winter pressures.
