Dr. Prasad Nishtala is an Associate Professor in the Department of Life Sciences at the University of Bath, with a joint appointment as a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Otago. His research focuses on pharmacoepidemiology, geriatric pharmacy, and the application of big data and AI in healthcare. He leads projects such as leveraging deep learning to uncover adverse drug events and developing digital interventions for chronic disease management.
Education: PhD in Pharmacy from the University of Sydney (2009), specializing in medication reviews and quality use of psychotropics.
Research Interests: Combining pharmacy, epidemiology, and data science to improve medication safety in aging populations. Key areas include polypharmacy, anticholinergic burden, and AI-driven disease cluster identification. Current doctoral projects include validating novel anticholinergic tools and predicting adverse drug reactions.
Projects:
- NERC GW4+ Project (2023): Deep learning for FAERS data pattern analysis.
- A sense-act digital technology for diabetic foot ulcers (2023).
- AI for disease clusters in immune-mediated conditions (2021).
Grants & Collaborations: Principal Investigator on multiple grants, including NIHR-funded AI projects and collaborations with experts in bioengineering and digital health.
Labs/Teams: Member of the Big Data and Better Ageing Research Group, focusing on translational research for older adults' health outcomes.
