Greg Scutt is a Clinical Principal Lecturer in the Centre for Lifelong Health, School of Applied Sciences at the University of Brighton. Holding a PhD in neuroscience and ageing and postgraduate clinical pharmacy qualifications, he integrates laboratory pharmacology with translational clinical research to improve medicines use in older adults.

Research Focus:
Dr Scutt’s work centres on pharmacogenomics and ageing. He investigates how genomic variation influences drug efficacy and adverse reactions, particularly in older people. Laboratory studies explore Nrf2/Keap1 signalling and antipsychotic-induced metabolic toxicity, while clinical projects include genotype-guided antidepressant prescribing and prediction of adverse drug reactions in the elderly.
He retains an active interest in neuroscience of ageing, using the molluscan model Lymnaea stagnalis to dissect age-related changes in learning and memory, and supervises undergraduate projects in this area.
Scientific Output:
Since 2013 he has published nineteen research outputs spanning pharmacokinetics, COVID-19 epidemiology, Alzheimer’s pharmacogenetics, and pharmacy education. These works collectively advance precision dosing, vaccine impact modelling, and understanding of genetic determinants of drug response.

Supervision & Mentoring:
Dr Scutt presently supervises PhD, MSc and MPharm students on projects ranging from antipsychotic-induced diabetes mechanisms to drug-drug interactions and pharmacogenetic risk prediction. He welcomes interdisciplinary research proposals that bridge laboratory, clinical and computational approaches in ageing and drug-response science.
