Maria Tchernycheva is a Directrice de recherche CNRS at the Center of Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies (C2N) in Palaiseau, Université Paris-Saclay. She holds a PhD in physics from Université Paris Sud (2005) and has over 120 peer-reviewed publications. Her work focuses on semiconductor nanowire fabrication and optoelectronic device development.

Her research explores flexible optoelectronics using III-nitride nanowires for LEDs, solar cells, and piezosensors. Key innovations include polymer-embedded nanowire membranes and silver nanowire electrodes enabling bendable devices. She investigates electron beam induced current (EBIC) microscopy and cathodoluminescence (CL) for nanowire property analysis.
Project highlights include the ERC-funded NanoHarvest initiative, which achieved bi-color flexible LEDs with InGaN/GaN heterostructures. Her team demonstrated stretchable transparent LEDs and high-efficiency piezogenerators with GaN nanowire arrays. She also pioneered selective area epitaxy on graphene nanodots for van der Waals integration.
