Maria S Salvato is an Adjunct Professor at the Department of Veterinary Medicine, University of Maryland, College Park (2022–present). Her academic career includes positions as Professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (2000–2022), Assistant Member at the Research Institute of Scripps Clinic (1985–90), and Staff Scientist at MRC Cambridge (1980–85). Her research focuses on arenaviruses like LCMV and Lassa fever virus, including the discovery of the "Z" protein critical for viral assembly.
