Maria Rae is a Senior Lecturer in Deakin University's School of Humanities and Social Sciences, specializing in political communication, digital media, and podcast studies. With PhD from University of Melbourne and background in journalism, she researches how marginalized communities use media to contest dominant narratives, particularly through audio media and digital platforms.
Research explores hyperpartisan news, podcast politics, and media representations of justice. Current projects examine the political soundscape through voice/power/audio technology and inclusive oral presentation practices in higher education. Taught courses include Introduction to Politics, Media and Politics: Campaign Strategies, and Political Communication.
