Maria Porter is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Resource Economics within the College of Agriculture & Natural Resources at Michigan State University. Her research focuses on household economics, labor economics, and agricultural technology adoption in global contexts.

Porter's research examines intra-household labor allocation, impact evaluation of agricultural interventions, and motivations for familial transfers. She employs methods like randomized control trials and survey data analysis in projects spanning Burkina Faso, China, Rwanda, the United Kingdom, and Michigan. Current work includes impact evaluation of the Scaling Up Sweet Potato Through Agriculture and Nutrition Project.
Her publications on Google Scholar reflect expertise in labor economics, development economics, and household decision-making, with a focus on gender dynamics and policy implications. Porter teaches graduate courses in household and development economics and undergraduate courses in intermediate microeconomics and development economics.
