Dr. Maria Mellins is a Professor in Criminology and Community Safety at St Mary’s University, specializing in stalking, domestic abuse, and crime media representation. She teaches on undergraduate programs in Criminology/Sociology and Law/Criminology, focusing on modules like Addressing Abuse and Media Representation of Crime. Her research emphasizes raising awareness of stalking and coercive control among young people, co-editing the textbook Young People, Stalking and Domestic Abuse (2023). She collaborates with organizations like the Alice Ruggles Trust and leads the university’s Community Safety Partnership, a multi-agency initiative addressing crime prevention and victim support.
Her work includes developing Ofqual-accredited qualifications for stalking awareness in educational settings and training criminal justice professionals.
