Dr. Maria Margalida Pons Jaume is an Associate Professor in the Department of Catalan Philology and General Linguistics at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). With a PhD in Catalan Philology (University of Barcelona, 1993) and an MA in Comparative Literature (Indiana University, 1996), she has held visiting professorships at Brown University (2009) and Stanford University (2011). Her research focuses on experimental Catalan writing post-Franco era, 20th-21st century poetry, and interdisciplinary intersections with affect theory, animal studies, and conceptual writing. She coordinates the consolidated research group Literatura Contemporània: Estudis Teòrics i Comparatius (LiCETC), with which she has directed 6 competitive research projects (last ongoing) under Spain’s R&D program.
Her publications include monographs like El codi torbat. De la poesia experimental a l'escriptura conceptual (2021) and co-edited volumes such as Textualisme i subversió: formes i condicions de la narrativa experimental catalana (1970-1985) (2007). Key articles explore themes like affective analogical thinking in Catalan poetry, non-anthropocentric subjectivity, and political dimensions of experimental writing. She has supervised 2 completed theses (1 co-directed) and currently mentors 5 PhD candidates (4 co-directed) and 3 predoctoral researchers from Spain’s FPI program (2 regional, 1 national).
