Maria Magdalena Brotons Capó is a Full Professor at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB) in the Department of Historical Sciences and Theory of the Arts. Since June 2021, she has served as Vice-Rector of Cultural Projects and Open University at UIB. Her career spans academic, administrative, and cultural management roles, with teaching experience in Art History, Film History, and audiovisual studies.

Research Focus: Two primary areas: (1) Contemporary art, particularly sculpture in the Balearic Islands, and (2) Early cinema studies, focusing on its visual culture connections, origins in the Balearic Islands, and cinema's role in tourism promotion. She collaborates on the research project 'Visions of the Sick Body in Cinema and Photography' (PID2021-125555NB-I00).
Teaching: Currently teaches Film History in the Philosophy and Art History degrees, and Massmedia and Audiovisual Languages in the Art History degree at UIB. She also coordinates external practices and final degree projects in Art History, and teaches at the Open University for Seniors (UOM).
Academic Leadership: Member of the Scientific Committee for the Quiroga Journal (Ibero-American Heritage) and the International Seminar on the Background and Origins of Cinema (UdG-Girona Film Museum). Leads the GROC research group on cinema origins.
