Maria M. Corrada-Bravo is a Professor of Epidemiology and Neurology at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine, and a Professor at the Institute for Memory Impairments and Neurological Disorders (UCI MIND).
Her research focuses on Alzheimer's disease and dementia in the oldest-old population (90+ years). She is a key investigator in The 90+ Study, which examines cognitive aging, dementia prevalence, and brain pathology in this rapidly growing demographic segment. Her work has revealed that nearly half of demented oldest-old individuals lack known cerebral pathology to explain their cognitive deficits, and that the APOE-e4 allele appears to be a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease primarily in women within this age group.
Dr. Corrada-Bravo's publications demonstrate expertise in the epidemiology of cognitive decline, with particular attention to the challenges of diagnosing dementia in the oldest-old and understanding the complex relationships between brain pathology and clinical symptoms in extreme old age. Her recent work continues to advance our understanding of cerebral perfusion, amyloidosis, and other factors affecting cognitive health in the 90+ population.
She has received NIH funding through grants including R01 AG021055 and R01 CA032197, supporting her research on aging and age-related diseases.
