Maria Larsson is a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Educational Sciences, Division for Higher Education Development (AHU), within the Faculties of Humanities and Theology at Lund University. Her work focuses on pedagogical development and scholarship of teaching and learning in higher education contexts.
Her research interests center on how university teachers express their pedagogical competence and how the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) can be introduced to develop teaching practices. She investigates tool-mediated learning and how students represent knowledge using visualization tools like Causal Loop Diagrams and System Dynamics frameworks. Her work bridges cognitive science with practical educational development.
Maria's recent publications show a consistent focus on the relationship between educational research and SoTL, exploring how teaching is evaluated in academic contexts and how teaching portfolios can advance scholarly approaches to teaching. Her work examines learning cultures in research-intensive universities and the development of pedagogical competence among faculty members.
- Constructive friction? Charting the relation between educational research and SoTL (2020)
- How teaching and SoTL are evaluated in professorial reviews (2018)
- Teaching academies in research-intensive universities (2018)
She is actively involved in the ATLAS project (Academic Teaching, Learning, and Supervision), which examines teaching, learning, and supervision practices in higher education. Her previous projects have focused on strengthening pedagogical evaluations at Lund University and cognition in context through Swedish Research Council funding.
Maria has organized and presented at multiple teaching and learning conferences, including Lund University's Teaching and Learning Conference in 2019, demonstrating her commitment to advancing educational practices through scholarly inquiry and community building.
