Dr. Maria Konstantaki is a Principal Application Scientist at the Institute of Electronic Structure and Laser (IESL) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) since 2017. She holds a B.Sc. in Physics from the University of Crete (1993) and a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Strathclyde (1997). Her research focuses on optical fiber sensors, structural health monitoring, and photonic materials, with an emphasis on transitioning technologies beyond laboratory settings. She has authored/co-authored over 100 publications and leads the Photonic Materials & Devices Laboratory at IESL.
- Adjunct Lecturer at the Technological Educational Institute of Crete (2013–2017 and 2001–2012).
- Marie Curie PhD Research Fellow (1994–1996) investigating optical fiber sensors.
Her work spans novel material studies, fiber grating inscription, and sensor design for biomedical and mechanical applications. Recent contributions include bioresorbable sensors and torque strain monitoring systems.
