Maria Kolympadi Markovic

Maria Kolympadi Markovic, PhD, is an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Physics, University of Rijeka. Her research focuses on organic chemistry, nanomaterials synthesis, environmental science, and biomedical applications. She holds a PhD from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) and has conducted postdoctoral research at the University of Neuchâtel and the University of Rijeka.

Her research interests include green synthesis of nanomaterials for water purification, atomic layer deposition (ALD), and marine natural products with anticancer properties. Her work integrates interdisciplinary approaches across organic chemistry, materials science, and environmental engineering.

Notable achievements include developing ALD-based porous thin films for water filtration and investigating radical intermediates in organic reactions. Her publications highlight trends in sustainable chemistry, photocatalytic materials, and marine-derived biomolecules.

Maria has supervised laboratory classes in organic chemistry and general chemistry at multiple institutions. She actively collaborates on international projects, including Croatian Science Foundation initiatives and industry partnerships.
