Maria Jose Gutierrez serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Spanish and Latin American Studies at Emory University, conducting transdisciplinary research at the intersection of Latinx Studies, Latin American Studies, and critical migration theory.
Education

- MA in Latin American Literature and Culture, New York University (2016)
Research Focus: Her work critically examines migrant culture in the Andes region and Latinx U.S. communities, analyzing interactions with state power, border regimes, and transnational kinship through embodiment and emotions. Core methodologies integrate Affect Theory with Digital Humanities to document migrant experiences.
Public Humanities Engagement: Actively collaborates with Ecuador's Corredores Migratorios media collective advancing migrant justice journalism and co-develops the Humanizing Deportation digital archive preserving self-authored migrant testimonials from Latin America.
