Dr. Maria Jahromi is a Visiting Professor at the Australian National University's (ANU) Research School of Economics. Previously, she served as a Senior Lecturer in Economics at POLIS: The Centre for Social Policy Research (ANU). She holds a PhD in Finance from the University of Sydney (2015) and undergraduate degrees from ANU, including a BComm Hons and Dip Arts.
Her research focuses on financial crises, economic sanctions, socio-economic impacts of pandemics, Islamic finance, health economics, and education economics. Notable projects include analyzing the effects of the global financial crisis on financial markets, the socio-economic repercussions of the COVID-19 pandemic, and the role of cultural inheritance in educational outcomes.
- Awards: Australian Securities Exchange (ASX) Prize for Best Paper on Derivatives/Quantitative Finance (2015).
- Teaching: Courses in econometrics, statistics, microeconomics, and finance at ANU since 2010.
Recent articles highlight her work on household financial stress during the pandemic, resilience in Islamic equity markets, and health expectancy dynamics using advanced multistate models.
