Maria Isabel Arce

Dr. Maria Isabel Arce serves as a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Leibniz Institute of Freshwater Ecology and Inland Fisheries (IGB) in Berlin, Germany, within the Department of Ecohydrology and Biogeochemistry and the Research Group Nutrient Cycles and Chemical Analytics.

Her research centers on Mediterranean arid river ecosystems, specifically examining nitrogen cycling dynamics under global change stressors including hydrological drying, agricultural intensification, and salinization. This work integrates field observations with biogeochemical analysis to understand ecosystem resilience and nutrient transformations in vulnerable freshwater habitats.

As an active member of IGB's Nutrient Cycles and Chemical Analytics group, she contributes to advancing methodologies for studying chemical processes in inland waters while addressing critical environmental challenges through interdisciplinary freshwater science.
