Maria Garcia Garrote

Maria Garcia Garrote is a researcher at the Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CIMUS) from 2022 to 2024. She earned her doctorate from the University of Santiago de Compostela in 2021, focusing on neurogenesis and cell survival mechanisms in the adult ventricular-subventricular zone and dopaminergic implants.

Her research interests include:

• Angiotensin system in neuroinflammation
• Dopaminergic neuron survival and regeneration
• Microglial receptor signaling
• Stem cell-based therapies for neurodegeneration
• Sex-specific inflammatory responses

Her recent publications (2020–2024) explore angiotensin receptor interactions, neuroinflammatory mechanisms, and cell-based strategies for Parkinson’s disease. She collaborates with the Parkinson's Disease Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology Group and Human Anatomy and Embryology teams.
