معرفی
MARIA GARCIA GARROTE is a Researcher at the University of Santiago de Compostela's Center for Research in Molecular Medicine and Chronic Diseases (CIMUS), affiliated with the Department of Human Anatomy and Embryology. Her work focuses on neurobiological mechanisms in Parkinson’s disease, particularly neurogenesis, dopaminergic neuron survival, and the role of the renin-angiotensin system. She holds a PhD from the University of Santiago de Compostela (2021), with a thesis on mechanisms of neurogenesis and cell survival in neural progenitors.
Her research interests include molecular pathways governing adult neurogenesis, the impact of inflammatory responses on neuronal viability, and therapeutic strategies involving mesenchymal stromal cells. She has contributed to understanding sex-specific neuroinflammatory mechanisms and the interplay between dopamine and angiotensin receptors in neuroprotective processes.
Maria has collaborated with groups such as the 'Parkinson neurobiol' (Parkinson’s Disease Molecular and Cellular Neurobiology Group) and has published extensively on topics like microglial activation, oxidative stress, and cellular therapies for neurodegenerative diseases. Her work bridges basic neuroscience with translational approaches to address challenges in Parkinson’s treatment.
