Maria Felton Lowry

Maria Felton Lowry is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmacy and Therapeutics at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy. She serves as Co-Director of the Geriatrics and Palliative Care Area of Concentration and Clinical Director of Pharmacy Services at UPMC Palliative and Supportive Institute. Her clinical practice focuses on inpatient and outpatient palliative care, providing pharmaceutical expertise in symptom management and medication optimization.

Her research interests emphasize deprescribing strategies, opioid stewardship, palliative care education, and medication-related outcomes in geriatric populations. Recent work includes developing assessment tools for student pharmacists and evaluating pharmacist-led interventions to reduce hospital readmissions in hospice patients.

Award-winning educator, Lowry has received accolades including the 2023-2024 Scott R. Drab APPE Preceptor of the Year and 2024 Richard Simmons Patient Safety Award. Her presentations span national conferences on topics like benzodiazepine use in delirium management and opioid deprescribing pilots.
