Maria Elander is Associate Professor and Associate Dean (Research and Industry Engagement) at La Trobe Law School. Her research examines law and culture in post-atrocity contexts, focusing on testimony, representation, and archives of the Khmer Rouge regime.
Her interdisciplinary work spans international criminal law, feminist theory, and genocide studies. She received the 2019 ECR Penny Pether Prize for her monograph Figuring Victims in International Criminal Justice analyzing victim representation at the Khmer Rouge Tribunal.
