Mari Tervaniemi serves as Research Director in the Department of Educational Sciences at the University of Helsinki, leading the Center of Excellence for Music, Mind, Body and Brain Research (CBRU). Active in Brain, Music and Learning domains, she supervises doctoral students in programs including Brain & Mind, Cognition, Learning, Teaching and Communication, and School, Education, Society and Culture.
- Research Focus: Cognitive neuroscience of music, neuroplasticity, child development, music therapy, and brain rehabilitation.
- International Collaboration: Visiting Research Professor at Beijing Normal University's Advanced Innovation Center for Future Education (2018-2024).
Key research areas include music's role in cognitive development, neurological impacts of dance/music expertise, and music-based interventions for health and education. Recent projects span MUSPRO (music-sports-behavior links), NASMUS (neonatal care), and EDUCA (future-oriented education).
