Marguerite Scott Copses is a Senior Lecturer and Associate Chair of the Department of English at the College of Charleston. She earned her Ph.D. in Poetry from Florida State University, focusing on service learning in community and at-risk environments. Her research bridges rhetorical studies and creative writing through experiential learning and embodied activism.

Her work challenges traditional classroom spaces by integrating movement, observation, and intuitive connections between creativity and critical analysis. Since joining the College of Charleston in 2007, she has directed First-Year Writing (2019–2025) and held leadership roles as Associate Chair.
Research spans Composition and Rhetoric, Creative Writing, Contemporary Poetry, and pedagogical theories emphasizing experiential learning and embodied activism. Her courses include ENGL 110 (Academic Writing), FYE (Movement and Writing), ENGL 225 (Writing Studies), and ENGL 310 (Theories of Teaching Writing).
