Professor Margriet Haagsma is a Classical Archaeologist at the University of Alberta's Faculty of Arts, holding a PhD from the University of Groningen and an MPhil from the University of Cambridge. She specializes in Mediterranean Archaeology, particularly domestic space and urbanism in Ancient Greece. Her research focuses on the archaeology of Thessaly, co-directing excavations at Kastro Kallithea with Sophia Karapanou since 2001. Previously, she served as director of the Netherlands Institute at Athens (1993–2001). She currently leads the Future of the Past initiative with Pam Willoughby and chairs the SSHRC Committee 5A.
