Margarita Inés Gili Planas is a full Professor of Social Psychology in the Department of Psychology at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), where she also holds a key role in the Faculty of Medicine. She is the Coordinator of the consolidated research group 'Mental Disorders of High Prevalence in Primary Care' (TRAMAP), affiliated with the Balearic Islands Research Institute (IDISBA), the University Institute for Research in Health Sciences (IUNICS), and the Chronicity, Primary Care and Health Promotion Research Network (RICAPPS) under the Carlos III Health Institute. Her academic leadership extends to administrative roles, including former Dean (2016–2019) and Vice-Dean (2019–2024) of the Faculty of Medicine, and former Director of IUNICS (2004–2006).
Her research focuses on the epidemiology, diagnosis, and treatment of affective and anxiety disorders in primary care, particularly their comorbidity with non-psychiatric conditions. She leads the current project on the implementation of the online psychotherapy program Sonreir és divertit for depression treatment, reflecting her interest in digital mental health solutions. Her work spans clinical, social, and public health psychology, with strong emphasis on gender perspectives, chronicity, and translational research. She has published over 150 articles in indexed journals and led numerous European, national, and regional projects.
Her recent publications highlight expertise in e-mental health, primary care integration, comorbidity, gender and health, and research leadership. She is actively involved in academic service as a member of editorial boards for JCR- and Latindex-indexed journals. She has conducted prestigious research stays, including at the University of Cambridge’s Department of Psychiatry. She supervises doctoral students in Psychology, Translational Public Health Research, and Neuroscience, and teaches in both undergraduate and master’s programs, including Medical Psychology, Social Psychology, and Gender and Health.

She is a recognized speaker at national and international forums, contributing to the dissemination of mental health research.
Her laboratory and research group, TRAMAP, operates within IUNICS and IDISBA, focusing on translational research in mental health. The group is embedded in national and international collaborative networks, particularly RICAPPS (RICORS), enhancing its impact on health policy and primary care innovation. Future work continues to center on digital interventions, implementation science, and gender-sensitive health approaches.
