Dr. Margaret Weiss is an Associate Professor in the Division of Special Education and disAbility Research at George Mason University's College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). She holds multiple leadership roles, including Director of the Interdisciplinary Center for Research and Development in Teacher Education and Principal Investigator for the TTAC School Age Region 4 Training and Technical Assistance Center. She also serves as the Academic Program Coordinator for the undergraduate Special Education: General Curriculum program.
Dr. Weiss earned her PhD from the University of Virginia. Her research focuses on effective teacher preparation, co-teaching collaboration, and integrating technology in education. She has led initiatives to address teacher shortages, redesign teacher preparation programs, and enhance collaboration between general and special educators.
Recent publications emphasize innovative strategies like eCoaching, virtual co-teaching, and program coherence to support teacher candidates. Her work highlights mentorship dynamics, professional identity development, and instructional practices in inclusive settings. Dr. Weiss collaborates with stakeholders to bridge theory and practice, particularly in rural and under-resourced contexts.
Her grants and projects focus on improving special education teacher training through partnerships and evidence-based reforms. She is affiliated with the Helen A. Kellar Institute for Human disAbilities, contributing to interdisciplinary research and policy development.
