Margaret Sullivan is an Assistant Professor in the School of Information at Florida State University’s College of Communication & Information. She holds a doctorate in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina, as well as a Master’s in Information Systems and a Master’s in Library Science from Drexel University.
Her research focuses on health-seeking behaviors of stigmatized populations, particularly those with opioid use disorders, and advocates for universal access to credible health information as a human right. Her work is funded by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, the Network of the National Library of Medicine, and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
Key research interests include health literacy, information access equity, and the intersection of information policy with marginalized communities. Her recent studies analyze health information-seeking on platforms like Reddit, the impact of stigma on harm reduction strategies, and global consultations on healthcare information access for the World Health Organization.
Teaching focuses on information organization, grant writing, and health literacy pedagogy. Sullivan has published widely on topics ranging from opioid-related health behaviors to refugee health literacy, with over 30 peer-reviewed articles since 2016.
