Dr. Margaret Platell is a Lecturer in Coastal and Marine Science at the University of Newcastle within the School of Environmental and Life Sciences. She holds a PhD from Murdoch University and has been an Adjunct Fellow at Murdoch University since 2006.
Research Expertise focuses on the functional ecology of fish and invertebrates across marine, estuarine, and freshwater environments, with emphasis on human impacts like fishing, aquaculture, and habitat degradation. Her work includes advanced multivariate analyses and collaborations with renowned scientists.
- Primary interests: Benthic ecology, Estuarine and Coastal Ecology, Trophic interactions, and Multivariate statistics.
Teaching encompasses first to third-year courses in marine science, fish and fisheries biology, and ecological research projects, including online courses like MARI1000 Our Oceans.
