Benjamin Ciotti is a Lecturer in Marine Biology at the University of Plymouth, affiliated with the School of Biological and Marine Sciences within the Faculty of Science and Engineering. His research focuses on ecological and physiological processes in wild populations of juvenile marine organisms, particularly fishes. He leads undergraduate and postgraduate programs including the BSc Marine Biology, and teaches modules on marine organism biology, field ecology, and fisheries. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to ocean health and sustainable fisheries.
Benjamin’s research interests include habitat use patterns, species responses to environmental stressors, and the ecological impacts of human activities. He employs field studies, citizen science initiatives, and experimental approaches to investigate topics like larval connectivity, estuarine nursery function, and climate change effects on marine invertebrates. Recent studies highlight his work on sandy beach ecosystems, intertidal organism physiology, and aquaculture sustainability.
His field courses in Portugal and UK coastal habitats emphasize hands-on ecological analysis. While no specific grants or awards are listed here, his publications demonstrate active engagement in marine conservation science and fisheries management through peer-reviewed contributions. Benjamin’s research also intersects with paleontological studies of Jurassic marine ecosystems, showcasing interdisciplinary approaches to understanding marine life across temporal scales.
