Margaret Leenhouts is an Adjunct Professor at the School of Music, Nazareth University, and a violinist with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. She has held faculty appointments at Hope College, Mansfield University, and Eastman School of Music’s Community Music School, where she directed chamber music workshops and chaired the string department.
Education:
- Bachelor of Arts (magna cum laude) in European History from Yale University
- Doctorate in Violin Performance and Literature from Eastman School of Music
- Master of Music from Mannes College of Music
- Studies with Dorothy DeLay at Juilliard School
Dr. Leenhouts is renowned for her chamber music performances and premieres of contemporary works. She has collaborated with the Eos String Quartet, Evergreen String Quartet, and Amadeus Trio, and performed at venues including Eastman’s Virtuosi Series and the Sedona Chamber Music Society.
Her career highlights include national tours with the Erick Hawkins Dance Company, premieres by Bella Davidovich and Samuel Adler, and benefit concerts in Arizona. She has also performed with the Honolulu Symphony, Grand Rapids Symphony, and Aspen Festival Orchestra.
Scientific Awards:
- First Prize for Chamber Music at the American School of Arts in France
Dr. Leenhouts has extensive teaching experience across all levels and ages, specializing in violin pedagogy and chamber music instruction. She studied under violin luminaries such as Josef Gingold, Henryk Szeryng, and Glenn Dicterow.
