Sonya Stith Williams serves as Adjunct Professor of Violin Music at Le Moyne College and holds the position of Assistant Concertmaster with Symphoria, the musician-founded orchestra established after the dissolution of the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra. Her extensive orchestral career includes a decade-long tenure with the Syracuse Symphony Orchestra, where she performed in both first and second violin sections and served as guest concertmaster, alongside engagements with the Buffalo Philharmonic, Binghamton Philharmonic, Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic, and Rochester Chamber Orchestra.
Her formal education encompasses:
- Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Eastman School of Music
- Master of Music in Performance and Literature from Eastman School of Music
Williams maintains active performance and educational commitments across multiple domains. As a core member of the Symphoria String Quartet, she delivers concerts, educational programs, and masterclasses throughout schools and communities. Her professional focus centers on violin performance techniques, chamber music interpretation, orchestral repertoire development, and innovative music pedagogy approaches for diverse student populations.
Williams demonstrates significant educational leadership through private violin instruction from her home studio, guest lectures at Eastman School Arts Leadership program and Syracuse University's Women in Leadership initiative, and teaching roles at Eastern U.S. Music Camp. She further contributes to institutional governance as Chair of Symphoria's Education and Outreach Committee and serves on Symphoria's Board of Directors.
Her ensemble affiliations form a robust network of regional musical engagement, including the Skaneateles Festival, Society for New Music, Civic Morning Musicals Recital Series, Syracuse Friends of Chamber Music, Clinton String Quartet, and Temple Concord concert series, reflecting deep community integration through artistic practice.
