Margaret Barrett is an **Honorary Professor** at the **School of Music, University of Queensland**, where she previously served as **Head of School (2008–2018)**. She holds leadership roles in organizations like the **Australian Music Centre**, **Queensland Symphony Orchestra**, and **Queensland Music Festival**. Her career includes prior positions at the **University of Tasmania Faculty of Education (1988–2008)**, including Director of Research and Deputy Head of School.
Barrett’s research focuses on **music’s role in human cognition, social development, and cultural identity**, with emphasis on **early childhood music engagement**, **creativity pedagogy**, and **arts-based inquiry**. Her work addresses **aesthetic decision-making**, **young children’s musical thinking**, and **arts education policy**.
