Margaret A. Naeser is a Research Professor at Boston University School of Medicine and a Research Linguist/Speech-Language Pathologist at the V.A. Boston Healthcare System. Her work focuses on neural reorganization in aphasia patients post-stroke, utilizing neuroimaging and brain stimulation techniques.
Education:
- Ph.D., University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee (Linguistics and Communication Disorders, 1970)
- B.A., Smith College (German and Zoology, 1966)
Research Interests: Language recovery mechanisms in chronic stroke patients, functional MRI studies, and repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for speech improvement.
Current Projects:
- "Neural Networks and Language Recovery in Aphasia from Stroke: fMRI Studies" (VA-funded, 4 years)
- "Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to Improve Speech" (NIH-funded, 5 years)
Grants: Funded by the Department of Veterans Affairs and NIH's National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders.
