Margalida Monserrat Mesquida

Margalida Monserrat Mesquida is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the University of the Balearic Islands (UIB), affiliated with the Nutrición Comunitaria y Estrés Oxidativo (NUCOX) research group through the competitive 'CONCIENCIA IdISBa: Consolidar la ciencia IdISBa' (FOLIUM 2023) postdoctoral fellowship from the Illes Balears Health Research Institute (IdISBa). She is also an affiliated researcher with the CIBER of Pathophysiology of Obesity and Nutrition (CIBEROBN) of the Carlos III Health Institute, a member of the University Institute for Research in Health Sciences (IUNICS), and a collaborating researcher at UIB.

She holds a Biochemistry degree from UIB, two Master's degrees (University Master in Teacher Training and University Master in Human Nutrition and Food), and a Doctorate in Nutrition and Food Sciences from the Universities of the Balearic Islands and Granada with Excellent Cum Laude distinction. Her doctoral thesis was funded by the competitive predoctoral 'Science Law' fellowship from CIBER and received multiple awards.

Mesquida's research focuses on community nutrition, oxidative stress, Mediterranean diet, antioxidants, inflammation, and prevention of cardiovascular diseases including fatty liver and metabolic syndrome. With 45 indexed scientific publications, four book chapters, and 57 conference presentations, her work has achieved notable impact with an h-index of 13 (674 citations in SCOPUS, 571 in WOS) as of March 2025.

She is accredited as a Doctoral Contracted Professor by ANECA and teaches in the Master's program in Human Nutrition and Food at UIB. Her teaching portfolio includes courses on allergies, infections, contaminants, physiological and nutritional bases for elderly populations, and lifestyle and health. She has supervised 12 Master's theses and 7 Bachelor's theses, and has conducted substitutions in undergraduate programs in Medicine, Biology, Biochemistry at UIB, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics at the Catholic University of Ávila.
