Maren Buck is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at Smith College since 2013. She holds a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.S. from the University of Puget Sound. Her research focuses on organic and polymer chemistry, particularly the design of macromolecular materials for biomedical applications. Her lab’s primary projects include synthesizing amphiphilic block copolymers for targeted drug delivery via nanostructured micelles and developing topographically patterned hydrogels for tissue engineering and wound healing.
Before joining Smith, Buck was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Mills College (2012–2013) and a Postdoctoral Scholar at the California Institute of Technology (2010–2012). Her work leverages reactive polymers, such as azlactone-functionalized materials, to engineer surfaces and interfaces with tunable properties. These materials find applications in drug delivery systems, biomaterials, and biointerfaces.
