Erwan Nicol serves as a Lecturer (HDR) at Le Mans University's School of Science and Technology (UFR STS), where he additionally holds the position of Director of the Chemistry Department.
His research program centers on the development and precise characterization of macromolecular architectures and hydrogels formed through self-assembly processes of amphiphilic block copolymers. Dr. Nicol specializes in synthesizing di- and triblock copolymers using controlled radical polymerization techniques (specifically ATRP and SARA-ATRP), with strategic incorporation of photopolymerizable groups on solvophobic blocks. This innovative approach enables the creation of micellar structures—including star, flower, and 3D network configurations—whose morphological features can be permanently fixed through light-induced crosslinking.
His work bridges fundamental polymer chemistry with advanced materials engineering, contributing significantly to the field of stimuli-responsive polymeric systems. The research has direct relevance to developing next-generation functional materials with precisely tunable properties for potential applications in drug delivery, tissue engineering, and responsive coatings.
