Dr. Marcus Nicholls is an Associate Professor in Film and Media at the London School of Film, Media and Design, University of West London. His interdisciplinary work spans Film, Media, and English courses, integrating theoretical and practical approaches. His PhD focused on adaptation studies in relation to Decadent literature and the works of J.-K. Huysmans, but his research has since expanded into diverse areas including intertextual decay, mysticism, hauntology, the EcoGothic, and aging in horror films. He teaches courses on world-building in theory and practice, film analysis through video essays, and the politics of science fiction’s imagined futures.
Dr. Nicholls's research explores the intersections of literary adaptation, Gothic studies, and contemporary media practices. His work emphasizes practice-based methodologies and theoretical engagements with cultural and philosophical themes.
