Marcus Böick is Assistant Professor of Modern German History at University of Cambridge's Faculty of History and Fellow at King's College. His research examines political, economic and cultural histories of modern Germany, particularly post-socialist transitions. Educated at Ruhr-University Bochum, he completed his PhD with support from the Federal Foundation for SED Dictatorship scholarship.
Research focuses on privatization, neoliberalism and post-nationalism in Central Europe, security/policing history, and organizational theory. Publications explore economic reconstruction after German reunification and evolution of private security industries. Significant works include analyses of the Treuhand privatization agency.
Honors include Junior Research Fellowships at UCL and German Historical Institute London, Guest Professorship at Friedrich-Schiller-University Jena, and the Kennedy Memorial Fellowship at Harvard. He co-edits Jahrbuch Deutsche Einheit and leads studies on transformation processes.
