Marcus Bull is Andrew W. Mellon Distinguished Professor of Medieval and Early Modern Studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. His research analyzes narrative structures in historical texts from the central medieval period to the sixteenth century.
Current book projects examine representations of the Great Siege of Malta and autobiographical writing in Pierre de Bourdeille's memoirs. His scholarship investigates how historical narratives construct experiential understanding through eyewitness accounts and literary conventions.
Bull's monograph 'Eyewitness and Crusade Narrative' received the 2019 Verbruggen Prize for best book in medieval military history. He has edited collections on Tudor historical imagination and early crusade texts.
