Marco Sanfilippo serves as Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Turin and is an active researcher at the Centre for Inclusive Trade Policy (CITP). His academic network spans multiple prestigious institutions including the Collegio Carlo Alberto (research affiliate), University of Antwerp (Associate Research Fellow in Globalisation and Development), and the European University Institute (Programme Associate and Visiting Researcher).
He holds a doctoral degree in Development Economics from the University of Florence, establishing his foundational expertise in economic development research methodologies.
His research program centers on development economics and international trade, specifically investigating the microeconomic drivers of private sector growth in low-income countries. By analyzing firm-level and individual-level datasets, he generates evidence for policy interventions that promote sustainable economic development. This empirical approach bridges academic research with practical policy applications.
Professor Sanfilippo maintains significant engagement with international development agencies, providing consultancy services to UNICEF, UNIDO, UNU-Wider, ADB, AfDB, and IMF. These collaborations demonstrate the policy relevance of his work and provide access to unique datasets from developing economies.
