Marco Gerlinger

Professor Marco Gerlinger serves as Consultant Medical Oncologist and Director of GI Cancer Research at St. Bartholomew's Hospital, leading the Centre for Tumour Biology research group. His work focuses on gastrointestinal malignancies, particularly colorectal and gastro-oesophageal cancers, with emphasis on cancer evolution, therapy resistance mechanisms, and novel immunotherapeutic approaches.

His research spans Cancer Evolution, Cancer Genomics, and Cancer Immunology, investigating how drug resistance develops in tumors and how treatment sensitivity can be predicted. This work directly informs clinical trials for early-stage and metastatic gastrointestinal cancers, with significant contributions to understanding tumor heterogeneity and immune landscape dynamics.

Recent publications demonstrate consistent focus on genomic determinants of therapy resistance, neoantigen landscapes in colorectal cancer, and evolutionary patterns in gastro-oesophageal tumors. His studies bridge fundamental cancer biology with clinical applications in immunotherapy and targeted drug development, particularly examining intratumor heterogeneity and immune microenvironment interactions.
