Marco Domingos

Marco Domingos is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Mechanical, Aerospace and Civil Engineering at the University of Manchester. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Girona (2013) and degrees from the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria. His research focuses on 3D bioprinting, biomaterials, and regenerative medicine, with applications in skeletal tissue regeneration and tissue engineering. He leads projects at the Henry Royce Institute and holds visiting professorships at institutions in Italy and Portugal.

Research interests include developing biofabrication strategies for tissues like intervertebral discs and cartilage, using advanced biomaterials and hydrogels. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and innovation.

Key projects include the ROBUST-BIOPRINT initiative for extrusion bioprinting and a stem cell kidney organoid model. He has secured grants through the Henry Royce Institute and collaborates internationally. His lab develops functional tissue models and biocompatible materials for clinical applications.

He supervises PhD students in topics like 3D bioprinted tissues and biofabrication. His lab’s innovations aim to address challenges in regenerative medicine, including osteoporotic bone regeneration and neurovascular dysfunction modeling.
