Marco Dirr is a lecturer in Communication Design at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle, where he teaches courses in visual storytelling and artistic practice. He holds the position of 'Künstlerischer Mitarbeiter' (Artistic Associate) in the Department of Communication Design, collaborating with Professor Stephanie Kiwitt. Dirr is concurrently pursuing his Meisterschüler (master student) studies under Professor Tamara Grcic at Kunsthochschule Mainz.
Dirr's artistic practice integrates analog image production, digital techniques, and fictional texts, focusing on photography and literary works that engage viewers in reflective processes. His research explores cultural exchange programs (particularly Czech-German collaborations), visual documentation of social issues like homelessness, and experimental approaches to visual diaries that examine the relationship between personal experiences and societal structures.
His notable recognitions include the 2019 Institut für Buchkunst Award for his photo-text book Zwei Monde, a 2021 residency at Casa Sasso in Switzerland, consecutive scholarships from Fonds Darstellende Künste (2022-2023), and a 2024 honorable mention from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Photographie for his exhibition Aporía.
Dirr co-leads two major academic projects: Stadt, Land, Fluß—a cultural exchange program with FAMU Prague including joint exhibitions—and Tage, Zeit, Ort exploring visual documentation of homelessness through diary formats, culminating in a planned 2026 exhibition at Halle City Museum.
