Erwin Andrä (1921–2022) was a German academic and design pioneer. He served as Professor for Industrial Form and Toy Design at Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle, later becoming a full Professor in 1979. From 1964–1971, he was Rector, steering the institution towards becoming the Hochschule für Industrielle Formgestaltung. He founded the Toy Design Department in 1965 and led its development as Fachbereichsleiter. Andrä also held roles as Prorektor (1980–1983) and head of international relations (1980–1986), fostering global collaborations.

- Pre-academic career: Model builder (1935–1941, 1944–1947), soldier (1941–1944), and director of Sonneberg Toy Institute (1961–1964).
His research emphasized industrial form design and toy innovation. He established experimental workshops linking industry with academia. Post-emeritus (1986), he remained active in exhibitions and design discourse. Notable contributions include institutional reforms and integrating craftsmanship with modern design practices.
Recent activities (2025) include exhibitions like ZUKÜNFTE – Material und Design von Morgen, collaborations with Halle's theater, and academic events such as the BURG Summer School. His legacy includes shaping design education and promoting interdisciplinary approaches.
