Dr. Marco Di Nunzio is an Associate Professor in Urban Anthropology at the University of Birmingham's Department of African Studies and Anthropology. Previously, he held positions at institutions including the London School of Economics, University of Oxford, and Addis Ababa University. His research focuses on urban marginality, development, and the politics of existence, particularly in Ethiopia and Nigeria. He is the founder of Otherwise Magazine, a platform for ethnographic storytelling.

Research Interests:
Di Nunzio examines urban change, marginality, and resistance through long-term fieldwork in Addis Ababa and Birmingham. His work bridges critical scholarship and transformative urban practices, emphasizing ethical responsibilities of urban planners and architects. Key themes include the right to the city, anti-mafia activism, and equitable urban development.
Recent Projects:
Since 2023, he has led a comparative study on large-scale urban demolitions and community resistance in Addis Ababa and Birmingham. His research highlights how marginalized communities produce knowledge to contest unjust development policies.
