معرفی
Dr. Marco Brancaccio is a Lecturer in the Department of Brain Sciences at Imperial College London and a UK Dementia Research Institute (UK DRI) Principal Investigator. His research focuses on circadian disruption in neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s, and explores mechanisms involving astrocytes, neurons, and molecular pathways in the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). He holds academic leadership roles, including Departmental Lead for Health and Safety and UK DRI Group Leader.
Education: MSc in Medical Biotechnology (University of Naples Federico II), PhD in Neuroscience (SISSA, Trieste). Postdoctoral work at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (Cambridge) and subsequent independent research at Imperial College London.
Research Interests: Circadian rhythms, astrocyte-neuronal interactions, neurodegenerative disease mechanisms, and translational strategies to delay dementia onset. Techniques include live imaging, gene therapy, and viral delivery of biosensors.
Awards: While no personal awards are explicitly listed, his lab members have received recognition such as the Amicitia Excellence Prize and Swiss Mobility Fellowship for collaborative work.
Grants/Advising: Secured grants for projects on astrocytic synaptogenic factors and equipment for immunohistochemistry. Advises PhD students including Natalie Ness, Jerusaa, and Jinglin.
Labs/Teams: Brancaccio Laboratory, part of the UK DRI and Section of Neuroscience at Imperial College London, with locations at Hammersmith and White City campuses.
