Dr. Galent's educational background includes:
- Doctoral studies at Jagiellonian University's Department of European Studies (1999-2005)
- Academic development at Cambridge University, Oxford University, and London School of Economics and Political Science
Dr. Galent's research primarily focuses on the mechanisms underlying divergence processes in the European Union. He has developed an approach he terms 'critical European studies' to re-examine European integration. His work spans national identity formation (particularly Britishness), multiculturalism, migration studies, social capital, and political communication. His research demonstrates interdisciplinary connections between sociology, political science, and European studies, with particular attention to the social and cultural dimensions of European integration.
Analysis of his publication record reveals a consistent focus on European integration challenges, particularly examining divergence rather than convergence in EU development. His work often explores the tension between national identities and European integration, with specific attention to Brexit dynamics, multicultural societies, and the role of cultural heritage in political unity. The temporal pattern of his publications shows increasing focus on contemporary European challenges following the Eurozone crisis.
His notable academic service includes:
- Chair of the Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Research Network (since 2020)
- Editor-in-Chief of 'International Journal of Interdisciplinary Social Sciences Collection' (since 2020)
- Member of Advisory Board of the Global Studies Research Network (since 2019)
- Member of the Commission on Civilizational Threats of the Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences in Kraków (since 2016)
Dr. Galent has been actively involved in research projects examining European integration from multiple perspectives. He has served as project leader for 'Migration and Europeanization: Building European Identity from Institutional and Interaction Perspectives' (NCN Opus, 2013-2014) and as team member for several significant projects including 'Reconstituting Democracy in Europe' (RECON, European Commission FP6, University of Oslo, 2007-2012). His current research includes participation in 'Everyday transnationalism of the far right: an interdisciplinary study of Polish immigrants' participation in far-right groups in Britain' (ESRC, UK, 2023-2026) as Advisory Board member.
His work connects with several research teams and networks focused on European integration, migration studies, and interdisciplinary social sciences, particularly through his leadership roles in international research networks.
