Michał Garapich is a Professor of Sociology at the School of Social Sciences and Professions, London Metropolitan University. He is an anthropologist with over 60 publications across disciplines including migration studies, far-right movements, and intimate ethnography.
- PhD from Jagiellonian University (Kraków), supervised by Prof. Zdzisław Mach
- Former positions: University of Padova, University of Surrey, University of Roehampton
His research spans migration from Poland, transnationalism, nationalism, homelessness, and Roma communities. Recent work explores far-right politics and Polish-Ukrainian relations through intimate ethnography. He has collaborated with homeless charities in London since 2010, influencing their practices and fundraising.
Publications include two monographs: London Polish Borders (2016) and Dzieci Kazimierza (2019, winner of Polityka’s History Book of the Year Prize). His 2017 co-authored book on social remittances further solidified his expertise in migrant agency.
Current projects include a 2023–2026 ESRC-funded study on migrants from Poland in transnational far-right politics. He has also contributed to studies on Roma experiences during the pandemic and migration strategies.
